April 10, 2012 – Ogden, UT, USA –
ENVE’s aero road line called the Smart ENVE System (SES), which debuted in early 2011, is growing into a full spectrum aero wheel offering for 2012.  In March, ENVE’s new SES 3.4 Clincher hit the show room floors and in the coming weeks the super deep SES 8.9 Tubular and SES 6.7 Clinchers will begin shipping as well.  A clincher version of the SES 8.9 is scheduled to begin shipping later this year.

Developing the Smart ENVE System clinchers was more than simply taking the existing SES tubulars and converting them into clinchers.  “Because clinchers are structurally unique from tubulars, this project merited a completely separate development cycle to ensure that the laminates were dialed. The end result is a line-up of premium race wheelsets that are durable enough to train on every day,” said ENVE founder Jason Schiers.  According to Simon Smart, “the new clincher rims have the same optimized external surfaces as the tubular rims, and it’s a great testament to the ENVE engineers that they were able to surpass the demanding structural requirements of a carbon clincher without compromising the external aerodynamic shape.”

“Pairing ENVE composite technology with Smart aerodynamics makes for the strongest, most versatile wheels for any wind condition in the world. Throughout the development, we were able to add new benchmarks in aerodynamics, which are highlighted by the new Smart ENVE System 8.9. The new 8.9s outperform some disc wheels in terms of aerodynamics, but in terms of stability and weight there isn’t a disc wheel that comes close,” said ENVE engineer Kevin Nelson.

Regarding aerodynamics, the Smart ENVE System has been exclusively developed in the Mercedes GP – Petronas wind tunnel in Brackley, Northhamptonshire in the United Kingdom under the direction of renowned aerodynamicist Simon Smart.  What sets the Smart ENVE System wheels apart from the rest is that they were developed to perform as a complete wheel system in frame, with rider on board.  As a result of this approach, the Smart ENVE System wheels feature dissimilar depths and widths between the front and rear wheels.  The front rims are wider and shallower to maximize stability across a broad spectrum of wind angles; and the rear rims are deeper and narrower to minimize drag on the trailing edge of the bike to eliminate turbulence and fit issues associated with modern aero frames.

Bottrill makes it a weekend double!

Matthew Bottrill www.drag2zero.com made it a weekend double victory by winning the Leicestershire Rc hilly. Held at Syston Leicetershire, ( Near Giant uk Hq) Riders completed a 26.1mile course,The course had to be reduced by 2miles due to Traffic lights near the finish area. But all the major climbs of Billedon Coplow, Tilton-on the-hill, Somerby, Burrough-on the hill and the final climb of Twyford had to be completed.

Leaving the starting aera at 9.50 Aboard his Giant Trinity SL, opting for Enve's 6.7 front wheel and Enve 8.9 rear wheel, Bottrill was soon powering down the home straight in to what could only be called torrential rain! Soon up to speed, and catching riders that had been brave enough to start  Bottrill was flying through the lanes pushing's the Bike and wheels to the limit " This is the second time I've opted to use the the 6.7 front and 8.9 rear smart Enve wheel's , due to the very high cross winds and then handle so well, you hardly feel any inbalance when you get the high gust of winds, the Giant Trininty Sl frame also handles great in these high winds, making it the perfect combination for these hilly races, Cycling is getting so technical, its like formula 1 racing, so if you want the best result you have to select the right combination of equipment!) Bottrill stopped the clock in a rapid 1.01.34 to beat, former National hill climb champion Matthew Clinton who had also flew round the course in a solid 1.03.40.

" Im quite happy with this weekend results, I've put some solid training in between races and even rode out to the race and home today to give me a total of 70miles. A big part of my recovery is using the right nutrition supplied my Zip-Vit. But also sports massage has also help me out big time this year I work along Jason Lavine at I-massage and he know's how to get the best out of athletes he works with"

Next weekend Bottrill and the rest of Drag2zero race team, will be competing in Wales, with the aim of taking the National competition team record for 25miles. Currently held by Bottrill. Scott Povey, Richard Bradley. Check in next week to find out how the race goes.

 1st Matthew Bottrill 1.01.32

2nd Matthew Clinton 1.03.40

3rd Scott Walker 1.06.20
