(Peloton Magazine)

ENVE SES 2.2, 3.4, 5.6, 7.8, 3.4 Disc, 5.6 Disc, 7.8 Disc, SES Rear Disc Wheel – There are no limitations on tire compatibility with these wheel models. Your ENVE SES wheels may be set up and run with inner-tubes and non-tubeless tires or tubeless (TL) and tubeless ready (TLR) tires alike. We recommend the use of a Tubeless (TL) or Tubeless Ready (TLR) 700x25c tire set up tubeless to maximize aerodynamics, rolling resistance, crosswind stability, and your ride experience.

Non-Tubeless Setup (i.e. I want to run inner-tubes) – Each ENVE SES wheelset is delivered with one roll of RED, model specific, ENVE tested and approved tubeless rim tape. This tape should be installed regardless of whether you intend to run your wheels tubeless or not. Do not run cloth or plastic (including ENVE) non-tubeless compatible rim tape or strips. Plastic rim strips and cloth tapes are too thick, bridge the drop-center rim channel, and will make installation and removal of tires extremely difficult. Click here for our tubeless tape installation video.

Cotton and/or Natural Fiber Sidewall TiresENVE does NOT RECOMMEND the use of cotton or natural fiber sidewall non-tubeless tires with ENVE SES wheelsets for EVERYDAY USE. These tires are intended for high-performance racing applications only. If you choose to run these tires, please inspect your tires after each ride for cuts, tears, and any signs of abrasion and/or wear in the sidewall and at the location of the rim/tire interface. If any wear and/or damage is identified, replace before riding. Riders who choose to run tires with cotton or natural fiber sidewalls do so at their own risk.

Massive Uprade from 45mm OEM Wheels

    Rob Rigg

How many hours/week do you ride? 6-15

What is your age bracket? 36-45

I’ve been road riding and racing for many years and the ENVE 4.5 rim model were my favorites. Just got a new EVO and the HG KNOT 45 wheels were too twitchy on descents, crosswinds and cornering, so I reached out to ENVE Customer Service, asked whether the 3.4 Disc or 5.6 Disc would be best for my type of riding (PDX – so lots of climbs, descents, rollers, crosswinds) and the 3.4 was recommended so I purchased a pair.

Having gone on a few rides to make sure I hit a wide array of terrain, wind directions, etc. my verdict is that the 3.4 Disc are not only a massive upgrade to the HG KNOT 45s but my favorite wheelset ever.

3.4 Disc vs HG KNOT 45 Disc:

Significant Improvement: Handling, Cornering, Stability and Comfort / Ride Quality. Crosswinds on Flats and Downhill Technical Descents (no more twitching, so much more confident). Carrying speed on Flats and Rollers.

    Improvement: Acceleration and Climbing

    Neutral: Speed on Non-Technical Descents

Obviously it’s not a cheap upgrade, but you get what you pay for. Now I have much more control over my bike, which is vital, along with additional speed and comfort.

    Chapeau to Team ENVE!

One thing I noticed right away was how much faster these wheels go .I saw my max speed just coasting down hills increase by about 4 to 5 mph.

I fitted these wheels to my new racing bike build (BMC SLR01). They are not quite as deep as my previous set of 50mm carbon wheels, but feel just as fast, are lighter, and are more comfortable in the cross winds. I love that they are a bit wider than a lot of other wheels, so my 25mm tubeless tires blow out to almost 28mm.
I did also run them for a while on my gravel bike for a multi-day touring ride, and with a nice set of fast tires, they transformed that bike into something that was very happy riding in a fast road bunch.
They look great too, which is always nice.

I live in SLC, UT where virtually every ride is a mountain climb. I needed a wheelset that could handle the vert, but didn’t leave me wanting on aggressive descents in narrow canyons. After a full season I can confidently say the 3.4 disc was the perfect choice for a capable climbing wheel without compromising on the descents and flats.

I’ve been riding these wheels for about a year now, and am in love! They make the flats feel effortless, and climb very well, and the disc brakes are awesome on mountain descents! I have a set of 25c tires and on these rims, they ride like 28s.

Fantastic upgrade from my Roval 40s! Live on Maui, so virtually every ride has loads of climbing.. and NOT mainland climbing. “Flat” 20-30 mile rides here have 2000+’ vertical, same distance “mountain” climbs 5k-10k’ vertical so a fast, easy accelerating wheel is super beneficial. The original Roval 40s on my S-Works Tarmac disc were ok, but these are loads better climbing and accelerating and MUCH better in our constant trade winds!!

Running Continental Grand Prix 5000 Tubeless 25, and comfort and handling are fantastic, even coming down the volcano @ 40+ mph for 20-30 minute stretches.

Highly recommend these: climbing, handling, wind.. fantastic!
